India’s health budget

The 2021-22 Union Budget allocated an outlay of Rs.2,23,846 crore for the health sector. This is a 137% increase when compared to the last year’s budget. Funding for public health infrastructure has been raised significantly in this budget. Rs.64,180 crore was allocated for a 6-year period for enhancing primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare. 17,000 rural and 11,000 urban health and wellness centres will be established and each district is to have integrated public health labs.
