Earth’s ice loss
A new survey by UK researchers found that annual ice melting rate is rapidly accelerating towards the worst-case scenario predicted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The study found that the global melting of ice rose from 0.8 trillion tonnes in the 1990s to 1.3 trillion tonnes by 2017. Between 1994 and 2017, the Earth lost 28 trillion tonnes of ice, which is equal to a 100 meters thick ice sheet covering the whole of the United Kingdom.
