Yerawada Central Prison
Yerawada Central Prison is a historic prison located in Pune, Maharashtra. Constructed in 1866, this prison in the largest in the state and one among the maximum security prisons in India. It detained many of Indian freedom fighters, including Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Patel etc. The current inmate population is nearly 5,000. This prison’s doors were recently opened for tourists under the jail tourism initiative launched by Maharashtra’s Prison Department.
