Cabinet Approval: Kolkata Port Trust renamed to Shyama Prasad Mukerjee Port Trust
On June 3, 2020, the Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi approved renaming of Kolkata Port Trust to Shyama Prasad Mukerjee port trust. The announcement of renaming of the port was given by PM Modi on January 11, 2020.

The announcement was made by PM Modi while he attended the 150th anniversary celebrations of Kolkata Port Trust. The GoI has lately introduced several measure in the name of the legend
Other measures
In October 2019, the Chenani-NAshri Tunnel was renamed after Shyama Prasad Mukerjee. The tunnel is the longest of Jammu and Kashmir and is located on NH-44. It is bi-directional and reduces the distance between Srinagar and Jammu by 30 km. The travel time is reduced by 2 hours.
Dr Shyama Prasad Mukerjee
Mr Mukerjee founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951. The party was the predecessor of BJP (Bharatiya Janata PArty). He died in Jammu and Kashmir Police custody for entering the state without permit. He battled for Kashmir immensely contributing to National Integration.
Shyama Prasad Mukerjee Rurban Mission
The mission was launched on February 21, 2016 to commemorate fourth anniversary of the legend. The mission aims to stimulate local economic development. It focuses to develop 300 rurban clusters.
