Ambedkar Jayanti celebrated throughout the country

On April 14, 2020, India celebrated the 129th birth anniversary of Bhimarao Ramji Ambedkar. Amidst the lock down, his birth anniversary is being celebrated digitally by the whole of India. The Indian Constitution was prepared under the leadership of Ambedkar.

About Ambedkar

Ambedkar was born in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh. It was a small cantonment in Indore district. The town was later renamed as Dr Ambedkar Nagar in 2003. He was born as Hindu and later converted into a Buddhist. He was recognised as modern Buddha of his age.

He was a great scholar who could speak Pali, Hindi, Sanskrit, French, English, Marathi, German, Gujarati and Persian.

Ambedkar was the last and 14thChild to his parents.

Awards

He has won several awards namely Bodhisattva in 1956, Bharat Ratna in 1990. He was also awarded The Greatest Indian award in 2012. When the Tri-coloured Indian flag was created, it was Ambedkar who placed the Ashok Chakra in the middle.
