11th DefExpo India- 2020 to be held in Lucknow

The 11th edition of DefExpo India- 2020 is scheduled to be held for 1st time in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The biennial Expo will be a 4-day event, beginning from 5 to 8 February 2020. It offers an excellent opportunity for Indian defence industry to showcase its capabilities and promote its export potential.

About DefExpo

Theme for DefExpo India- 2020 will be ‘India: The Emerging Defence Manufacturing Hub’. Its focus will be on ‘Digital Transformation of Defence’.

Unique Platform: It would provide a unique platform for Defence industry Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), exhibitors and private industry to display their latest innovations and capabilities in the field.

It would also provide an opportunity to major foreign OEMs to collaborate with Indian defence industry and help promote Make in India initiative.

Visitors: The DefExpo is expected to be visited by Ministerial level delegations from foreign countries and visitors from all over world to witness India’s emergence as major manufacturing hub.

B2B & G2G: At DefExpo international level shows are conducted that not only facilitates Government-to-Government (G2G) meetings, signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between participants but also Business-to-Business (B2B) interaction with senior foreign delegations.

Significance:

The Expo would provide attractive opportunities for co-development and co-production of defence equipment and systems not only for our defence forces but also for exporting it globally.

It will also highlight emergence of UP as an attractive destination for investment in Defence sector and act as a platform for alliances and joint ventures in defence industry.

Defence Industrial Infrastructure in UP

It has 4 units of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) at Lucknow, Kanpur, Korwa and Naini (Prayagraj).

9 ordnance factory units- such as Kanpur, Korwa, Shahjahanpur and Firozabad

1 unit of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) at Ghaziabad

India’s one of two Defence Industrial Corridors (DICs) is also planned in UP while other DIC is proposed in Tamil Nadu. These corridors encourage Defence Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), like Indian defence industry and promote Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs).
