Indian Army to develop Jaisalmer Military Station as Smart Facility
The Indian Army has drawn detailed plan to develop Jaisalmer Military Station in Rajasthan as smart facility patterned on Central Government’s Smart Cities Mission. The development plan will provide a major boost to local economy and aid in ecological conservation.
Key Facts
The plan has been formulated in consonance with eight key areas identified by central government for development of Smart Cities. It has provisions for rainwater harvesting, centralised garbage disposal, solar-security lights, underground electric cabling, solar-water heaters, LED lighting and LPG supply through pipelines.
Under this plan, Indian Army is undertaking systematic development of station by incorporating concept of smart buildings and green building norms. State-of-the-art military hospital is also being developed to give very-high priority to health of troops and their families.
The plan also gives special attention to preserve and develop ecological balance. It mandates special ecology force for planting 1 lakh trees every year. Under it, herbal garden, the first in Jaisalmer has also developed in the station.
The plan has provision for Central Sports Complex havig synthetic volleyball, tennis and basketball courts, athletic track, squash and indoor badminton courts and gymnasium. It will also have astroturf hockey ground. The centre of the station will also have auditorium, shopping complex and Sainik Institute located for easy accessibility.
