Government to redefine blindness to meet WHO stipulation

The Union Government has decided to change a four-decade-old definition of blindness to bring it in line with the World Health Organisation (WHO) criteria and ensure the Indian data on blindness meets the global estimates. As per National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) definition, in India person is blind if he is unable to count fingers from a distance of six metres. WHO definition stipulates this distance as three metres.
