Soviet football legend Anatoli Ilyin passes away
Soviet football legend Anatoly Ilyin passed away in Moscow, Russia. He was 84.
Ilyin was best known for scoring winning goal that had helped Russia (then USSR) to win gold medal in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics against Yugoslavia by 1-0 score.
About Anatoly Ilyin
- For the majority of his professional career, Ilyin had played for the Spartak Moscow club from 1949 to 1962.
- He mostly played at striker position and was capped 31 times by the then Sovietbetween 1952-59 and scored 16 goals.
- He had won the Soviet Top League with his club for record five times in 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958 and 1962 and the Soviet Cup in 1958.
- He was Soviet Top league’s top scorer twice in 1954 (11 goals) and 1958 (20 goals). He also had participated in the 1958 World Cup.
