Renowned theatre artiste Chatla Sriramulu passes away

Renowned theatre artiste and writer Chatla Sriramulu passed away at Secunderabad, Telangana. He was 84.
He was instrumental in the establishment of Rasaranjani, a popular literary and cultural organisation dedicated to the theatre arts.

About Chatla Sriramulu

  • He was born on December 5, 1931 in Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) in then Madras Presidency.
  • In early days of his career he was a railway employee but later shifted to towards the theatre.
  • Sriramulu had acted and directed more than 100 plays and wrote several books. His famous work is play ‘Maro Mahenjodaro’.
  • He also acted in two Tollywood movies, ‘Swpana’ and Chiranjeevi’s ‘Nyayam Kavali’. He had trained popular Telugu actors Venkatesh and Nagarjuna in acting.
  • Awards and Honours: Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (1982) and was awarded ‘Best Actor’ twice by Andhra Nataka Kala Parishad.
  • London based British Drama League had awarded him with certificate of ‘Producer and Teacher’ in 1970. He was the first artiste from Andhra Pradesh to receive Emeritus Fellowship from the Human Resources Department (HRD) of Union Government.
