Jammu and Kashmir inundated

The situation in the valley remains critical and grim. Vast stretches of land have gone under water. Thousands of civilians have been rescued by the army and air force. The death toll has hit 150 and is expected to rise if situations are not brought under control. Army and air force have stepped up the scale of rescue operations. Air Force has deployed 29 planes and helicopters for the same. A special and dedicated disaster monitoring cell has been put in place. All the army and air force bases have been put on high alert.
Special teams of National Disaster Response Force have been sent for rescue and relief by the directions of the Home Minister. The Minister also appealed to all the NGOs of the area to channelize all their energies and efforts to support the rescue and relief operations.
All the major government buildings like the Army headquarters, Courts, hospitals, offices, roads and vital communication links etc. have been affected by the lashing flood waters from the major rivers. Many strategic posts along the border have been hit.
PM Narendra Modi who himself surveyed the area has been really moved by the struggling populations and has offered a financial support of Rs. 1000 crore as flood relief. He has also asked various other state governments to come forward and help the people of Kashmir in such taxing times. Prime Minister has declared the situation as a national disaster. In addition to the relief, the PM has also offered the CM Mr. Omar Abdullah all kind of assistance and help.
In a rare humanitarian gesture, PM Modi has also extended support to PM Nawaz Sharif to deal with flooded areas of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. In a letter to the Pakistan PM, he expressed concerns for those affected by the retreating monsoon rains across the border. Pakistan, too in a retaliatory gesture has expressed sympathy for all the people who are suffering and has offered any kind of help.
