Education Minister launches Minimum Standards of Architectural Education Regulations
The Human Resources Development Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, has launched the ‘Minimum Standards of Architectural Education Regulations, 2020.’ The Education Minister has highlighted the unique architectural beauty of the country, its monuments and temples.
Details of the Policy
The regulations have been prepared by the experts of the Council of Architecture. These will be able to address the major concerns and challenges lying in the area of human habitat and built environment in the country. The regulations are expected to propel India to a new high in the areas of innovation and skill development. CoA has drawn inspiration from the present and past treasures of Architecture and brings a radical shift in the field of Architecture to make India a world leader again. The student-centric approach of these will equip the students to learn and develop their skills in a much-improved manner to take up the challenges of the 21st century.
Background
The regulations have been in the making for a long time. The previous Regulations were made in 1983. Since then, the education scenario has changed all over the world. Therefore, it was high time that the Regulations dealing with Architecture Education in the country get amended.
Council of Architecture
It is a statutory body constituted by the government under the provision of the Architects Act 1972. The Act provides for registration of architects, standards of education, recognized of qualifications and standards of practice to be complied with by the practising architects. It is charged with the responsibility to regulate the education and practice of the profession through the country.
