Indira Van Mitan Yojana launched in Chhattisgarh: Highlights
On the occasion of the World Tribal Day, Chhattisgarh government has decided to launch Indira Van Mitan Yojana in order to make the forest dwellers in the state self-reliant. The idea is that the tribal people will be utilized for accessing the forest produce in the state and get employment also.
Highlights of the Scheme
- Under this scheme, groups of youth will be formed in 10000 villages of tribal area of the state and all forest-based activities will be conducted through these groups only.
- This scheme will open employment opportunities for the tribal people so that they become self-reliant and also prosper in life.
- Arrangements for procurement, processing and marketing of forest produce will be ensured through these groups, under the provisions of the scheme.
- The government has set a target of establishing forest produce processing centres in every tribal development block of the state.
- The groups will be empowered to manage trees so that they can collect the forest produce from the trees of the forest areas and get economic benefits and the purchase of forest produce will be arranged through the group so that the right price of forest products can be obtained.
What will the State Government do?
This scheme will add 19 lakh families from scheduled areas of the state. The estimated cost of a unit would be around Rs 10 lakh and an amount of Rs 8.50 crore will be made available for the establishment of forest produce processing unit in 85 development blocks of scheduled areas. Fruits and vegetable plants will be planted in the forests that can increase the income of the forest dwellers.
Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana
The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, has also implemented such a scheme. PMVDY is a market-linked tribal entrepreneurship development program for forming clusters of tribal SHGs and strengthening them into Tribal Producer Companies. There will be Van Dhan Vikas Kendras in the participating states for building capacity and also skill up-gradation of the tribal youths in the state. TRIFED is the nodal agency of this scheme.
World Tribal Day
This day is celebrated on 9th August every year in order to recognize the first meeting of the United Nations Working Group on Indigenous Populations in Geneva in 1982. The day is being celebrated since 1994 in accordance with the declaration by the United Nations. This day promotes and protects the rights of the indigenous population of the world and also to acknowledge the contributions made by these people. The theme of the 2020 Edition is “COVID 19 and the Indigenous Peoples’ Resilience.’
