Over 40,000 Healthcare Centres under Ayushman Bharat Operational in India
According to the data published by the Union Health Ministry, a total of 43022 health and wellness centres have become operational in different parts of the country in order to ensure that the basic healthcare facilities reach the people without any issue. The Ministry has stated that 13657 health and wellness centres have started operating within the period of the Corona pandemic itself i.e. between January to July 2020.
What are Health and Wellness Centres under Ayushman Bharat Scheme?
The HWCs have been established to ensure delivery of comprehensive primary health care services, existing sub-centres covering a population of 3000-5000 and the maximum time to provide care by these organizations has been set at 30 minutes. The primary healthcare centres in the rural and the urban areas would also be converted into HWCs. The care services would also be complemented through outreach services, mobile medical units, camps, home and community-based care, etc.
What is Ayushman Bharat Scheme?
This is a government-sponsored health insurance scheme aimed at providing free coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year at any government or even empanelled private hospitals all over India for secondary and tertiary healthcare facilities. This is available for around 74 crores beneficiary facilities and around 50 crores Indian citizens. The beneficiaries have been mainly selected based on the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011 data. However, there is no restriction on the basis of family size, age or gender
