GoI: White Paper released on Focused Interventions for Make in India

On July 10, 2020, the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan released white paper on “Focused Intervention for Make in India”.

Highlights

The document released outlines technology and policy imperatives required to revive Indian Economy. The white paper was prepared by TIFAC (Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council).

About the White Paper

The paper was launched to provide a thrust to “Make in India” by adopting appropriate technology. It focuses on interventions of Make in India post COVID-19 and also on Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients. The paper focuses on status, technology readiness, issues and challenged in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients.

Interventions

The White Paper has proposed interventions on 5 sectors of the Economy. It includes medical and health, Information and Communication Technology, Electronics, Machinery and Manufacturing and Agriculture and Food Processing.

Significance

The interventions in Make in India initiative will help in Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. This is because, new indigenous technologies will help in increasing economic growth of the country. Thus, the country can move out of the COVID-19 crisis quickly.

Currently the recovery rate of India from COVID-19 is 63%.
