Adani Green Energy bags world’s largest solar bid
The company has bagged the world’s largest solar bid which requires building a photovoltaic (PV) power plant of 8,000 MW and also setting up of a domestic solar panel with a manufacturing capacity of 2,000 MW. The total investment is around $6 billion.
The tender which attracted bids twice the offer, was the first over subscription of a renewable energy issue in two years, the time frame where solar and wind energy projects over 10,000 MW have been extended or postponed due to lack of investors.
Adani Green energy is expected to set up facilities in Rajasthan and Gujarat. The Government of Rajasthan has approved the company’s proposal to set up solar infrastructure at Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jalore and Barmer, while Kutch is expected to be selected location in Gujarat.
Under the domestic manufacturing linked solar power projects from state run renewable agency SECI (formerly called Solar Energy Corporation of India) , Azure power will also be building a PV project with a capacity of 4,000 MW and solar kit manufacturing capacity of 1,000 MW.
India’s domestic solar cell manufacturing capacity currently is at 3000 MW, while the module making capacity is 8,000 MW.
