Kasowal Bridge

The Border Road Organisation succeeded in completing the Kasowal Bridge in Punjab before schedule, despite the lockdown in effect.

About the Bridge

The Kasowal Bridge was constructed at a cost of 17.89 crore INR by the Border Road Organisation. It is a 484m bridge constructed under Project Chetak. It connects Kasowal enclave with the rest of the country throughout the year. The earlier connectivity solution was only temporary and led to the fertile lands being left uncultivated during monsoon times.

Pontoon Bridge

Earlier, the Kasowal enclave in Punjab was connected only by a pontoon bridge. Pontoon bridge is a type of floating bridge that acts as a temporary connectivity solution across rivers. The Kasowal pontoon bridge was dismantled every year before the monsoons to protect it from the water currents. The newly constructed Kasowal Bridge is a permanent solution.

River Ravi

The Kasowal Bridge was constructed across the River Ravi. It is one of the tributaries of the Indus River. It is a transboundary river that flows across north-west India and eastern Pakistan. The waters of River Ravi are allocated for India’s use according to the Indus Water Treaty of 1960.
