About the Scheme
The National Crèche Scheme was previously known as Rajiv Gandhi National Crèche Scheme. It is a centrally sponsored scheme that was launched on January 1st, 2017. It is being implemented by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.
Features
Some of its features include:
- Day-care facilities for children of working mothers.
- Day-care facilities also provide sleeping facilities.
- Monitoring of growth.
- Nutrition supplementation from local sources.
- Pre-school education for children in the 3 to 6 years bracket.
- Early stimulation for children under 3 years.
Functioning
The scheme functions by fund sharing among the centre, states and the NGOs (only the centre and NGOs for union territories). The crèches will be open for 26 days per month and 7.5 hours per day. Each crèche can house no more than 25 children and should have a worker and a helper.
