Mohammed Hussamuddin bags Silver Medal at Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament

25-year-old Indian boxer hailing from Nizamabad, Telangana Mohammed Hussamuddin clinched the silver medal in the 57-kg category, at the Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament. The tournament was conducted in the capital city of Bulgaria, Sofia. Hussammudin, who is a Commonwealth Games bronze-winner, lost the final bout to Italy’s Francesco Maietta and settled with the silver.

Strandja Memorial Boxing cup is the oldest amateur boxing tournament in Europe that started in 1950 and is being organized annually across cities of Bulgaria. The other two Indian boxers who won bronze medals in the tournament were four-time Asian medallist Shiva Thapa and former world silver-medallist Sonia Lather. Indian boxers ended this year’s tournament with 1 Silver Medal and 2 Bronze Medal as above 200 boxers participated in this year’s tournament from more than 30 countries across the globe. 24-year-old Indian boxer, Amit Panghal has been among one of the most successful boxers in the history of the tournament as he clinched the Gold Medal in the 52 Kg category in consecutive years 2018 and 2019.
