Water Efficiency Report: Gujarat Topped
As a part of the mid-term review of the Central and the State government departments by the Jal Shakti Ministry, Gujarat has been ranked first in meeting the efficiency targets, to provide piped drinking water connection to every household in next 5 years. In 2018 ranking, Gujarat was ranked 7th, while Telangana topped the ranking. Tamil Nadu made the most significant improvement from 33rd to 13th place in the 2019 ranking
Delhi is among the worst-performing states for the year 2019. The ranking which also listed seven Central departments placed the Survey of India in the first place followed by the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH). The pollution watchdog of India, Central Pollution Control Board was ranked at the last and seventh place. The ranking was prepared under the National Hydrology Project, which aims towards improving the management system in the country at the time of drought and flood.
The water resource department of the states which have implemented the projects was ranked on the basis of satisfactory, moderately satisfactory and unsatisfactory category, in which, Gujarat surface water department topped the ranking with the highest score followed by Damodar Valley Corporation at 2nd place.
