Space Astronauts Training for Gaganyaan to Start this Month
Four astronauts who have been shortlisted for the upcoming maiden Indian crewed orbital spacecraft mission ‘Gaganyaan’ will be receiving 11 months training in Russia which is expected to be started by the third week of this month- January 2020 as informed by the Union Minister of State(Independent Charge) for Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh on Wednesday, 15th January 2020. The identity of the selected astronauts for the Union Cabinet sanctioned Rs 10,000 crores Gaganyaan project was not revealed, but it was informed that all four persons selected are men. The heaviest launch vehicle GSLV Mark-III also dubbed as ‘Bahubali’ of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will carry the astronauts to space in December next year.
Rakesh Sharma back in 1984 became the first Indian to go into space, but the spacecraft was built by Russia. Under the ‘Make in India’ vision of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, Gaganyaan will be the first spacecraft for a human space mission to be developed in India by the state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and ISRO.
