International Human Solidarity Day

The International Human Solidarity Day is an international observance as per the resolution 60/209 adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 22nd December 2005.
Earlier under resolution 57/265 on 20th December 2002, the United Nations General Assembly had established the World Solidarity Fund as a trust fund of the United Nations Development Programme. Hence, 20th December was selected by the General Assembly in 2005 to observe every year as the International Human Solidarity Day.
The day was first observed in 2006, is celebrated for our unity in diversity, to raise public awareness on the importance of Solidarity, to remind governments across the world to respect their commitments made towards international agreements and to encourage new initiatives for poverty eradication.
World Solidarity Fund was estabhlished to eradicate poverty and to promote social and human development, while solidarity stands for the fight against poverty.
