UN Security Council to discuss Kashmir issue on China’s request

The United Nations Security Council will meet on Tuesday, 17th December 2019 to discuss the present situation of the Jammu and Kashmir region of India following a request from Pakistan ally China.
The Council had a similar closed-door meeting in August earlier this year after India’s revoked article 370 and bifurcated the state of Jammu of Kashmir into separate union territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.
As per media reports, China’s UN mission on request of Pakistan had requested a briefing of the council on the present situation of Jammu and Kashmir.
China’s continuous support to Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir comes days before the Chinese Foreign Minister and State Councillor Wang Yi’s scheduled visit to India for the 22nd round of India-China boundary talks. The 22nd round of boundary talks is expected to be held on Saturday, 21st December 2019 at Agra. The National Security Advisor(NSA) of India, Ajit Doval will lead the Indian delegation during the boundary talks.
