The third in a series of five ‘Fast Patrol Vessels’ (FPV) named ‘Amrit Kaur’ was delivered to the Indian Coast Guard (ICGS) by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) on 19th November 2019.
Significance of the Name ?Amrit Kaur?
Named after Freedom Fighter, the first Health Minister of India and the first Asian President of WHO?s, (World health Organisation) governing body, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur.
Features
ICGS ‘Amrit Kaur’ is a 7.5-metre-wide medium-range surface vessel and 50-metre-long. It is capable of performing rescue, patrolling, anti-poaching and anti-smuggling operations in the maritime zones of the country. It can attain ?a maximum speed of 63 kilometers? per hour with tolerance of over 1,500 nautical miles.
40/60 anti-aircraft gun as its main armament with an improved habitability features such as fully air-conditioned modular accommodation for 35 personnel. The ship has advanced control systems and is equipped with three main engines, an ‘Integrated Bridge System’ constituting of ??all modern communication and navigation devices and water jet units.
