Great Green wall of India

To battle climate change and to stop desertification government plans to take up an afforestation campaign in northwestern India by creating a 1400 km long and 5 km wide green wall stretching from Gujarat to Delhi. This green wall will replicate 8000 km long and 15 km wide Great Green Wall Of Africa that will run over 20 countries of Africa. This initiative was launched by African Union and is set to be completed in 2030 by recovering 100 million hectares of degraded land. The green wall of India will restore 13 Mha of land by 2020 and a total of 26 Mha degraded land by 2030. This initiative can be seen as India’s move to show adherence to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
