Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award
To recognize the spirit of adventure in the youth of India, the Government of India hands out the Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award every year.
What are the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure awards?
- The Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards are awarded every year to acknowledge the achievements of citizens in adventure and risky activities.
- These awards are handed out in the field of adventure and they aim to encourage the youth of India to inculcate within them the spirit of endurance, risk-taking attitude and develop cooperative teamwork.
- The awards recognize the potential of a person to be fast, effective and ever-ready vigilant in the challenging situations around us. These awards also aim to provide a fresh incentive to the youth of India to take up and get exposed to adventure activities.
- The winners receive a small statuette, certificates, and Rs 5 lakh as award money.
- The Tenzing Norgay National Awards are handed out in four separate categories, these are Land Adventure, Water Adventure, Air Adventure and a special award for Life Time Achievement.
- This year’s award was announced after a National Selection Committee shortlisted the awardees.
- The National Selection Committee was constituted under the chairmanship of the Secretary (Youth Affairs) and also had expert members who had made a mark in the field of adventure.

This year’s awards have gone to Ms. Aparna Kumar (Land Adventure), Late Shri Dipankar Ghosh (Land Adventure),?Shri Manikandan K. (Land Adventure),?Shri Prabhat Raju Koli (Water Adventure), Shri Rameshwar Jangra (Air Adventure) and?Shri Wangchuk Sherpa (Life Time Achievement).
