Nepal expedition to remeasure the height of Mount Everest
Nepal’s Survey Department has commissioned a team of surveyors climbers to remeasure the height of Mount Everest to quash persistent speculation that the world’s tallest mountain has shrunk. Mount Everest lies on the Himalayan range straddling the border of Nepal and China. Its official height is 8,848 metres which was first recorded in 1954 by an Indian survey. Various other teams have measured the peak, although height measured in 1954 remains the widely accepted figure.
