NCRB report on women and child trafficking: Mumbai and Kolkata highest

In 2011, the Supreme Court had constituted a panel to submit its report on children and women trafficking. The panel submitted its report in 2019. It had recommended NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau) to compile data on missing children and women trafficking. The key findings of the report prepared by NCRB is as follows

Findings

The report says that the common causes of trafficking are sexual exploitation, child labour and domestic help. Mumbai and Kolkata reported maximum number of trafficking.

Maharashtra reported the maximum number of missing women and Madhya Pradesh reported maximum number of cases of missing children. Of all the states, Odisha reported maximum rise in missing women cases. The percentage of increase in Odisha was around 143% in 2018 as compared to the previous year. The report also quoted data from United Nations.

The UNODC Global Report, 2018, reported that the 35% of victims trafficked were for forced labour. Also, more than half of the reported cases were females.
