CBSE, NCERT to launch ‘Tamanna’ aptitude test for Class 9, 10 students

Under the aegis of Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) have launched an online aptitude test dubbed as ‘Tamanna’ (Try And Measure Aptitude And Natural Abilities) in a bid to help students make right career choices.

What is Tamanna?

It is an aptitude test for Senior School Students to enable stakeholders knowing the aptitude of students of Classes 9 and 10. It aims to help students of Class 9 and Class 10 make a better choice of subjects, and eventually help them in making an informed decision while choosing subjects in Class 11 and 12. However, there is no pass or fail in this test as Tamanna only provides information about the weaknesses and strengths of students.

CBSE (Know your aptitude) KYA exam will assess a student’s strengths and weaknesses in academics. The test should be taken voluntarily by interested students and must not be used to impose any subject, courses of study and/or vocations etc. on  students. CBSE initially conducted piloting of test with 17,000 students of Class 9 and 10 across India.

CBSE KYA registration process: As per CBSE circular, the registration process for KYA will begin from 29 January 2020 on CBSE’s official website – cbse.nic.in. Students can appear for the test on any working day, by using school’s log-in id.

CBSE has also availed a test manual in which details about use of aptitude test, dimensions measured in test, construction and standardization of test, administration and scoring and understanding meaning of aptitude test scores are available.
