Chile Saltpetre

Sodium nitrate is the chemical compound with the formula NaNO3. This salt is also known as Chile saltpetre. It is different from ordinary saltpeter, potassium nitrate. Sodium nitrate was used extensively as a fertilizer and a raw material for the manufacture of gunpowder in the late 19th century.
