Datta Padsalgikar appointed as Mumbai Police Commissioner
Senior IPS officer Datta Padsalgikar has been appointed as the Commissioner of Police of Mumbai. He will be 40th Police Commissioner of Mumbai.
He succeeds Ahmed Javed who had retired from service and was appointed as Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia.
About Datta Padsalgikar
- Born on 26 August 1958 and hails from Solapur district of Maharashtra.
- He is an IPS Officer of 1982 Batch of Maharashtra cadre. He has vast experience in police service in terror and counter-terror operations.
- Prior to this appointment he was on deputation to the Union Government in the Intelligence Bureau (IB). For IB, he had worked in Nagaland, New Delhi and Washington (US).
- In January 2016, was again repatriated to the state and was serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP).
