UN Democracy Fund(UNDEF)

It is a United Nations General Trust Fund, with the primary purpose of supporting democratization around the world was established by the previous UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in July 2005. It supports projects financially that strengthen the voice of civil society, promote human rights, and encourage the participation of all groups in democratic processes. The large majority of UNDEF funds go to local civil society organizations — both in the transition and consolidation phases of democratization. The Secretary-General’s Advisory Board, UNDEF’s main governing mechanism, is composed of 19 members including the United States, India, Japan, Qatar, Australia, Germany and France. UNDEF’s office is staffed by an Executive Head. UNDEF has supported a total of more than 330 projects in more than 110 countries (2010).
