Fissile Missile Cut-off Treaty

FMCT is a proposed international treaty to prohibit the further production of fissile material for nuclear weapons or other explosive devices whose terms and conditions is yet to be finalised.

I The Geneva based Conference on Disarmament (CD) on 23 March 1995 agreed to a establish a committee to negotiate "a non-discriminatory, multilateral and internationally and effectively verifiable treaty banning the production of fissile material for nuclear weapons or other nuclear explosive devices."

Continuous negotiations were on without a fruitful resultant treaty with agreement of all involved, and in 2012, the first session of the CD’s 2012 deliberations many countries’ opening statements called on the CD to restart FM(C)T deliberations. Although the CD was able to agree on an agenda for 2012, the agenda did not include deliberations on the FM(C)T.
