Neil Harbisson
Neil Harbisson is an Ireland born and Spain brought up contemporary artist, composer and cyborg activist best known for his self-extended ability to hear colours and to perceive colours outside the ability of human vision.
In 2004 he became the first person in the world to wear an eyeborg. He was recently in India. Neil was born with achromatopsia, a condition that allowed him to see no colour, he grew up tackling what he calls a “social exclusion”. In 2004, Harbisson began using an eyeborg, a head-mounted camera fitted with a chip and processor. The eyeborg helps him ‘see’ colours. In his eyeborg, the camera picks up information about a colour (using light), and the chip transforms that into sound.
