DFCC to commission its first 56 km stretch in Bihar
The much-awaited ambitious Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) project of government has announced to commission its first 56-kilometer stretch in Bihar.
Out of total 3,300 km stretch the 56 kilometer developed between Durgawati and Sasaram will be commissioned by the end of March 2016.
The rest of the stretches are expected be commissioned between 2017 and 2019 in phased manner and the entire corridor is expected to be fully operational by 2020.
About Dedicated Freight Corridor:
Dedicated Freight Corridor is double track, Broad Gauge freight-specific lines envisaged by government in Eleventh Five Year Plan (2007–2012).
It is in developing stage under the aegis of Railway Ministry covering 3,300 km long stretch. It is projected to develop in two routes.
- The Eastern Corridor from Ludhiana in Punjab to Dankuni in West Bengal that covers 1,839 Km.
- The Western Corridor from Dadri in Uttar Pradesh to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai that covers 1,483 Km
Interlinking: These two corridors interlinks at Khurja in Uttar Pradesh.
Cost: The entire project development cost is estimated to 81,459 crore rupees.
Purpose of Project: It’s very purpose is to mitigate the congested railways network by separating freight traffic from the passenger lines. It is dedicated to up gradation of transportation technology with the reduced unit transportation cost.
