Union Government brings 39 more Pharmaceutical drugs under price control

Union government has brought 39 more Pharmaceutical drugs under price control as part of its efforts to make medicines affordable in the country.
The drugs brought under this price control regime include the durgs which can be used to treat diseases such as diabetes and digestive disorders.
In this regard, nodal drug price regulator National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has issued the notification. It has mentioned that the prices of drug formulations which have fixed include Hydrochloride, Ciprofloxacin, Paracetamol, Cefotaxime, Domperidone and Metformin+ Glimepiride.
With addition of these medicines, the price control list of Pharmaceutical drugs has increased to about 652 drugs. Earlier in May 2015, NPPA had capped the prices of 30 formulation drugs including those used to treat diseases such as asthma and tuberculosis.
During pricing
Presently, government caps prices of essential drugs based on the simple average of all medicines in a particular therapeutic segment with sales of more than 1 per cent. However in some cases, companies are allowed to hike prices by only up to 10 per cent in a year.
