Lieutenant-General Abhijit Guha to lead UN mission in Yemen
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed Lieutenant General (retired) Abhijit Guha as the head of the UN observer mission in Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah.

Lieutenant General (retired) Abhijit Guha has been appointed as the Chair of the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC) and head of the United Nations Mission to support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA).
RCC is responsible for redeploying forces of Yemeni warring parties in accordance with the Stockholm agreement.
United Nations Mission to support the Hudaydah Agreement
United Nations Mission to support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA) was established through the resolution of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) after the resolution of Stockholm Agreement between the Government of Yemen and the Houthis.
The UNMHA has been mandated to:
- To lead and support the functioning of, the Redeployment Coordination Committee (RCC), assisted by UN personnel.
- To oversee the governorate-wide ceasefire, redeployment of forces, and mine action operations;
- To monitor compliance of the parties to the ceasefire in Hudaydah governorate and the mutual redeployment of forces from the city of Hudaydah and the ports of Hudaydah, Saleef and Ras Isa;
- To work with the parties so that security of the city of Hudaydah and the ports of Hudaydah, Saleef and Ras Isa is assured by local security forces in accordance with the Yemeni law, and;
- To facilitate and coordinate UN support to assist the parties to fully implement the Hudaydah Agreement.
Lieutenant General (retired) Abhijit Guha succeed Lieutenant General Michael Lollesgaard and has 39 years of national and international military experience.
