An American facelift for the Jaipur foot
Soon there will be a Michigan version of the famous Jaipur Foot. The Jaipur Foot considered to be among the world’s cheapest and most user-friendly artificial limbs. A prototype of the new Jaipur Foot, is prepared jointly by the Dr. P. K. Sethi from Rehabilitation & Jaipur Limb Training Centre and Engineers from the Michigan Technological University, USA. It was fitted on two patients.
Named after the late Magsaysay Award winner Dr. P. K. Sethi, the Centre has so far been working on reducing the weight of the present model of the Jaipur Foot from 850 grams per piece to about 650 grams. Dr. Sethi worked at the centre for nearly 20 years, always trying to improve upon the popular models of the Jaipur Foot. He passed away in 2008.
There are too many versions of the Jaipur Foot and the Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, is the leading one among them.
