Richard Rahul Verma nominated as new US ambassador to India

Richard Rahul Verma is new US ambassador to India. His nomination was passed by United States senate by a voice vote. He will become the first Indian-American to be the US ambassador to India and is expected to be sworn in shortly.
He will arrive in India ahead of US President Barack Obama visit who is the chief guest on Republic Day i.e. on 26^th January 2015.
About Richard Verma

He was born on November 27, 1968 in US after his parents moved from India to the US in the 1960s.
Education: He graduated from Lehigh University (BS, Industrial Engineering), American University Washington College of Law (JD), and Georgetown University (LLM).
Career: He had served in the U.S. Air Force, as an Air Force judge advocate.
In 2008, he was a member of the Commission on the Prevention of WMD proliferation and terrorism, and co-authored World at Risk.
In 2008 he had had worked on presidential debate preparations for the US President Barack Obama who was then Illinois senator.
He has served as assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs at the State Department in President Obama administration from 2009 to 2011.
He had played an important role in the Congressional passage of Civil Nuclear Deal with India. He even had advocated for strong Indo-US ties. He also had started “India 2020” project at a top American-think tank Center for American Progress.
Currently he is a member of the Secretary of State’s Foreign Affairs Policy Board and senior counsellor at Steptoe & Johnson law firm and the Albright Stonebridge Group, a business advisory company, led by former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
