Garhwal rifles wins Cambrian Patrol
A team from the Indian Army beat 140 other participants to win the gold medal in the Cambrian Patrol that was held in UK between October 17 to 26. The Indian team consisted on 8 Garhwal Rifles.
Earlier, a team from the Gorkha Rifles had won a gold medal in 2010.
Exercise Cambrian Patrol
The Exercise is an annual international military patrolling event that takes places amidst the Cambrian Mountains, with participants from across the world. It was first held more than 40 years ago by Welsh Territorial Army soldiers.
The Exercise requires its participants to cover a 80 km course in less than 48 hrs while performing various military exercises. Each team consists of eight persons. The tests span over two days, during which the participants do not get any rest of sleep. The Exercise aims to evaluate qualities such as leadership, self-discipline, courage, physical endurance and determination. Most teams do not manage to complete the Exercise; the ones that do earn either a gold medal or silver medal or bronze medal or passing.
Garhwal Rifles
The Garhwal Rifles is an infantry regiment of the Indian Army. It was initially raised in 1887 as the 39th (Garhwal) Regiment of the Bengal Army. This Regiment was later absorbed into the British Army and eventually into the Indian Army.
