China bestows “China Book Award” to JNU professor Priyadarsi Mukherji

China bestowed China Book Award to Jawaharlal Nehru University professor Priyadarsi Mukherji , for his support to interpretation and publication of Chinese works. Priyadarsi Mukherji was awarded along with 10 other winners. China Book Award is a distinctive award to applaud those who have made great and extensive assistance to familiarizing Chinese books overseas.
Prof. Mukherji is presently working under the Chinese and Sinological Studies department of JNU. He has translated a number of literary works from Chinese into Bengali, English and Hindi. over the last 25 years he has monographed books on Chinese culture and language. Prof. Mukherji has to his credit many works themed around China like “Poems of Lu Xun” – an anthology of 45 poems by Lu Xun from original Chinese into Bengali.
China Book Award was first launched in 2005 by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China as a State-level award. It intends to encourage Chinese culture and literature overseas. Awards generally go to foreign sinologists, translators, writers and publishers who have made great headways in familiarizing Chinese culture to the world.
