What is LBW in Cricket?

Leg Before Wicket popularly known as LBW is a word used in Cricket.

The Purpose of Leg before Wicket is to prevent Batsman from using his leg pads to block the ball that knocks wicket. It was introduced for the first time in the year 1774. One of the most important rule to be followed by Umpire when making LBW decision is that a Batsman cannot be given out if the ball pitches outside the leg stump.
