What is Back-Swamp in Geography?

Back-swamp refers to the marshy tract behind the natural levees usually formed due to flood waters which are unable to escape. It is generally a part of the floodplain with deposits of clay and fine silt after flood. Back-swamp is usually lower than the adjacent levées which rise to main channel. This area is usually inhabited by Marshy fauna and flora.
