India is the world’s largest producer of milk, contributing about 19% of the world’s total milk production with over 150 million tonnes of milk production every year. India, whose milk output surpasses that of all the European Union countries combined, is followed by the US, China, Pakistan and Brazil.

The world’s first centre for breeding Saola, a critically endangered hoofed mammal, will be constructed at Bach Ma National Park in Thua Thien Hue province, Vietnam. The centre is scheduled to be inaugurated in 2018 as a joint effort by the Saola World Working Group (SWWG) and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), which will help tackle the ungulate endemic. Saola is recognised by two parallel horns with sharp ends, which can reach 51cm in length and are found on both males and females.

India’s first Technology and Innovation Support Center (TISC) will be set up at Patent Information Centre in Punjab under the World Intellectual Property Organization’s (WIPO) TISC program. For this, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has signed an institutional agreement with the Punjab State Council of Science and Technology in New Delhi. The objective of the TISC is to stimulate a dynamic, vibrant and balanced Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) system in India to foster creativity and innovation, thereby promoting entrepreneurship and enhancing social, economic and cultural development by establishing a network of TISCs in India.

The National conference on crowd management has successfully held at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on July 12, 2017 by setting the stage for adoption of best practices and use of technology to reduce risks at mass gathering events across the country. The conference was organised by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) jointly with the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA).

Indian skipper Mithali Raj has become the first player in the history of women’s ODI cricket to have crossed 6000 career runs. She reached the milestone in India’s ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 match against Australia on July 12, 2017. So far, Mithali has scored 6028 runs with the help of five centuries and 49 half-centuries. Now, she is the all-time highest run-scorer in women’s cricket, surpassing the record previously held by England’s Charlotte Edwards (5992).

Raymond Chikapa Enock Phiri (70), the legendary South African jazz musician, has passed away in Nelspruit, South Africa on July 12, 2017. Internationally, Phiri was known primarily for his contributions to Paul Simon’s Graceland album and ensuing tours.

The National Gandhi Museum (NGM) is located in New Delhi i.e. showcasing the life and principles of Mahatma Gandhi. The museum first opened in Mumbai, shortly after Gandhi was assassinated in 1948. The museum relocated several times before moving to Rajghat, New Delhi in 1961, next to the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi. The museum is in news because Dr. Y P Anand, the former Director of National Gandhi Museum (NGM), has authored the book ‘Historical Background to the Imposition of Salt Tax under the British Rule in India (1757-1947) and Mahatma Gandhi s Salt Satyagraha (1930-31) against the British Rule Background’. The book is recently launched by the Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (I/C) for Culture and Tourism, at Gandhi Smriti in New Delhi on July 13, 2017. This book is extremely important for India, especially in the present times, wherein there is a need for humanity in the world.

The 8th edition of Theatre Olympics ‘The Biggest Theatre Celebration of the World’ will be hosted by India from February 17 –April 08, 2018, which is being organised by National School of Drama, under the aegis of Ministry of Culture. The Theatre Olympics 2018 will feature maximum number of Indian & International theatre groups, invitee eminent theatre personalities along with their performances. In addition, there will be ambience performances with allied activities like exhibitions, seminars, symposia, interactive discussions and workshops with well-known academicians, authors, actors, designers and directors. It’s first time that the Theatre Olympics will be held in India. In 2016, the 7th Theatre Olympics were held in Wroclaw, Poland.

The Indian Railways has recently launched a virtual server “RailCloud” with an inbuilt security system to optimise server usage and faster connectivity. The technology is developed by rail PSU RailTel at an estimated cost of approx Rs 53 crore. The RailCloud technology enables maximising the usage of available server and storage resulting in accommodation of bigger data and more applications within same server space. It will cover all management related to various services like human resources, health and hospital, signal assets, freight and logistics and energy among others. Beside this, the first IT application on RailCloud “Nivaran-Grievance Portal” was also launched. Nivaran is a platform for resolution of service-related grievances of serving and former railway employees.

The Murlen National Park is located at Champhai district in Mizoram and covern an area of 200 km2. It is home to tiger, leopard, sambar, barking deer, Malayan giant squirrel, Himalayan black bear, serow, hoolock gibbon, etc. About 15 species of mammals, 150 species of birds, 35 species of Medicinal plants, 2 species of bamboos, and 4 species of orchids so far have been recorded in this Park. At present, 36 people are involved in conservation work of Murlen National Park.
