November 26: Constitution day
The Samvidhan Diwas (or Indian Constitution Day) is being observed on November 26. It is the date on which Indian constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly in 1949. It came into force two months later on January 26, 1950. Last year, the government decided to observe 26th November as Constitution Day to honour our Constitution and its promulgation. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked all of its affiliated schools to celebrate the Constitution Day. The day is being celebrated to value and preserve rich heritage; to promote harmony and the spirit of common brotherhood; to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reform; to renounce practices derogatory to the dignity of women; to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes, rivers and wildlife; and to have compassion for living creatures. The Prime Minister has also released two books on Constitution: ‘New Version of Constitution of India‘ & ‘Making of Constitution’ on the eve of the Constitution Day. Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE) is the nodal Ministry for the celebration of Constitution Day.
