BATL set to make BrahMos engines
BATL (BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Limited) has commenced its 2nd phase of development to put in place a full-fledged missile integration complex.
BATL, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BrahMos Aerospace that caters to product requirements in the India’s defence, aerospace and nuclear sectors, is set to land orders for production of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile’s liquid ramjet engine, thus making it the 1st Indian company to manufacture BrahMos engines. Rs. 190 Crore orders for various products were pocketed by BATL, including Rs. 65 crore from the ISRO.
A transfer of technology agreement would soon be inked b/w the appropriate authorities of the two sides of India and Russia to manufacture the engine in India, as the BrahMos being an India-Russian joint venture. Currently, the BrahMos engines are produced at Orenburg in Russia. Earlier, BATL also obtained a green light from the ISRO for producing cryogenic engines for the GSLVs. Construction of integration complex taken up under phase-II expansion had begun and the DRDO sanctioned Rs. 50 Crore for the same.
BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Ltd. (BATL), is a wholly – owned subsidiary of BrahMos Aerospace Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, established with the aim of achieving the goal of self reliance in manufacturing and system intergation for the Defence, Aerospace and Nuclear sectors. BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Ltd. commenced operations at Thiruvananthapuram from January, 2008.
