Rotavirus infection: India amid 5 countries with highest number of Deaths
As per the latest edition of the Lancet Infectious Diseases magazine, nearly 1 Lakh below the age of 5 years died of diarrhoea ascribable to rotavirus infection in India in 2008, accounting for 22% of the total deaths reported worldwide in 2008. Five countries accounting for more than half of all deaths attributable to such infection: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria and Pakistan. The paper has suggested that the introduction of effectual and accessible rotavirus vaccines in these nations could substantially reduce Deaths ascribable to diarrhoea.
