2011 FILA Wrestling World Championships
2011 FILA Wrestling World Championships was held at the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul, Turkey between September 12 to September 18, 2011.
The event brought a shock to Indians, when defending champion and star Indian wrestler Sushil Kumar crashed out in the second round of the 66kg freestyle category. Sushil had created history last year by becoming the first Indian to win gold in the world championships in Moscow. He was defeated by 5:3 by Ukraine’s Andriy Stadnik. With this, India’s campaign in the championships ended on a disappointing note as not a single grappler made their presence felt in the tournament. All other wrestlers failed to make any breakthrough.
