70 years of adoption of the Constitution of India

Every year 26th November is celebrated to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India as the Constitution Day, also called Samvidhan Divas.
On 19th November 2019, The Government of India by a gazette notification declared 26 November as Constitution Day.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India.
The Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on 26th November 1949 and came into effect on 26th January 1950.
The Constituent Assembly founded on 6th December 1946, constituted the Constitution of India under First President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad as the President of the Constituent Assembly and Dr. B.R.Ambedkar as the Chairman of the drafting committee.
Earlier 26th November was also observed as National Law day, after a lawyers’ body, the Supreme Court Bar Association passed a resolution in 1979.
To Mark the 70 years of adoption of the Constitution, joint sitting of both houses (Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha) of parliament will be held today.
