India test-fires BrahMos successfully from INS Tarkash

India has successfully test fired the 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the Navy’s latest guided missile frigate INS Tarkash off the coast of Goa as part of Navy’s Acceptance Test Firing (ATF) .
INS Tarkash:

  • Russian built
  • Advanced Talwar Class frigate
  • Weapons suite include surface-to-air and surface-to-surface missile systems, 100 mm medium-range gun, close-in weapon system, torpedo tubes and anti-submarine rockets.
  • The warship, along with two other frigates of the class – INS Teg (already commissioned in 2012) and INS Trikand (yet to come), has been built as part of an over Rs 8,000-crore contract signed b/w India and Russia in July 2006. All three will be fitted with BrahMos.

India is designing several different versions of the BrahMos which includes land, anti-ship and submarine-launched versions.
